I’m Joshua Julien Brouard, the SEO consultant behind Net Narrator. I help small and medium-sized businesses across Durban get found on Google, and I’m upfront about what that takes.

How I came to do SEO in Durban
I was born in Durban but grew up in Mtubatuba, a small town in northern KwaZulu-Natal. I’ve always said I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and in a lot of ways that’s still how it feels when I look back.
A couple of years ago I moved back to Durban. Settling in, I kept noticing good local businesses that were almost impossible to find online. Great service and loyal customers, but next to nothing on Google. That gap is a big part of why Net Narrator exists.
My working life started in web writing, creating content for digital agencies. Writing for the web teaches you quickly that the right words have to work for two audiences at once: the people reading them and the search engines deciding who gets seen. I built on that with a postgraduate diploma in marketing management and specialist courses in SEO, content and performance marketing.
Why honesty matters to me
SEO has a reputation problem, and a lot of it is earned. Plenty of people sell guaranteed rankings and quick wins that never arrive, and small businesses end up paying for promises that never turn into progress.
I’d rather tell you what can realistically be achieved, even when it isn’t what you were hoping to hear. If the numbers don’t make sense for your business, I’ll say so before you spend anything. Ask me on WhatsApp and I’ll tell you where you stand.
Approach
How I work
A few things you can expect from the first conversation onwards.
- You deal with me. There are no account managers or handovers. The person you speak to is the one doing the work.
- We start with your goals. Our first conversation covers what you want from your website, what you’ve already tried online, and how long SEO really takes. Most people expect results faster than SEO can deliver them, so we talk about that early.
- Timelines you can plan around. SEO builds over months. I’ll give you a realistic picture of when to expect movement, and we’ll agree milestones together.
- Regular updates. You’ll usually hear from me twice a month, with what’s been done and what’s changed.
- A straight answer on whether SEO is right for you. If paid ads or something else would serve you better, I’ll tell you and point you in the right direction.
We’ll work well together if
You’re open to advice and patient about results. The businesses I enjoy working with most treat SEO as a long-term investment and want to understand what’s happening along the way.
We probably won’t be a good fit if
You need results overnight, or you don’t treat people well, me or anyone else. That’s never a good starting point for a working relationship.
A moment that stuck
The client call that stuck with me
Duguza Pest Control is a family-run Durban business that’s been in the trade for more than 30 years.
Their new website went live in mid-July 2026. Not long after the SEO was in place, my phone rang. It was the team at Duguza, letting me know they’d just had their first lead through the site.
Watching rankings climb in a report is satisfying. Hearing that a real customer found a local business because of that work is what makes it worth doing.
